There are no obligations or anything like that when you join/subscribe to the AYBS? discussion list. All you have to do is go through a very quick registration process with Yahoo Groups when you subscribe, and that's that. No future e-mails, no member dues, no nothing. ^_^

Please read the following welcome message I send out to all subscribers to the list so you can see what kind of things we discuss and where we stand:
------------------------------------------------
Hello AYBS? fan, and welcome to the list!
Please take the time to read this message. If it becomes apparent that you have failed to do so, you may be unsubscribed, so it's for your own benefit. *g*
To unsubscribe yourself from this list, go to the Yahoo Groups website and go into your account, where you can change your subscription between digest and normal mode, or cancel it all together.
Quick Rules for the AYBS? list:
1. Racism, sexism, homophobia, heterosexism, ethnocentrism, et cetera, are definite no-no's. These things may be funny in the context and the world of AYBS? (and that certainly would make an interesting topic you could discuss on the list! *g*), but not in present-day people, and not in this world. The first offense, if relatively mild, will get you a slight warning. Other than that, you will be unsubscribed.
2. No flames. Flames are direct or crude/rude criticisms. For instance, telling someone that they may want to do a bit of brush-up work on Scene 2 of their AYBS? fanfic is not a flame. Telling them that "Scene 2 was really crappy and lame" is a flame. Flames result in immediate unsubscribing; after your first offense, feel free to resubscribe after two weeks and we will all have cooled down and welcome you back, provided you don't make a big brouhaha about your absence. After your second offense however, you'll have to stay away. In other words, sit back and think a bit before you clatter on your keyboard. *g*
3. If you are flamed, do not respond. Let me deal with it, and believe me, I will. If you have a burning desire to defend yourself, then respond POLITELY, even if it's false politeness. This way you come out looking like the good guy.
4. NO ATTACHMENT FILES please. If you have a fanfic to send, copy and paste it into your e-mail if it is not that long. If it is quite long, ask people to privately e-mail you if they want to read it. In the same vein, if you have pictures to send, ask people to privately e-mail you if they want them. Also - and this is probably the coolest option! - Yahoo Groups allows mailing list members to upload sound files, picture files, and other goodies so that other members can enjoy them! ^_^
5. Discussion of any topic is fine as long as it pertains to AYBS? Discussion of broader topics such as homophobia, racism, sexism, and classism, all of which AYBS? touch upon, is welcome AS LONG AS there is a bit of definite AYBS? content in what you have to say. Off-topic posts are fine, but try to make such posts the exception and not the rule. *g* A good rule to follow is that it's fine if you are talking about something AYBS?-related and you digress into another topic, but it's not okay to START OUT with a topic that's completely unrelated to AYBS?
6. Perverts are welcome; I mean, this is the only mailing list where you can talk about a certain Mrs. Slocombe's pussy without fear of being banned, right? ;) However, PLEASE use your plain ol' common sense. Feel free to post something like: "Mr. Lucas would look cute in boxers and a tape measure around his neck," but NOT something like: "Wouldn't it be funny if Miss Brahms went down on Captain Peacock?" There IS a difference, and if you're not sure that what you have to say is acceptable, then just don't say it.
7. No forwards or chain letters to the mailing list. This should be obvious since I stated above that anything you *begin* to discuss should be somewhat AYBS?-related, but still, there have been problems with this in the past. However, if you want to send us a petition to keep AYBS? on a certain PBS station or something, do feel free to share it with the mailing list, so we can help.
8. Due to complaints from certain mailing list members that they get burdened with administrivia messages they do not want to read (such as messages where I explain in detail why I banned certain people from the mailing list), I have initiated the following rule: if any message from the AYBS? list has the word "ADMIN" in the subject line, delete it right away if you do not want to read the content. If you read it, you have only yourself to blame for opening a message that says "ADMIN" on it. *g*
9. Lastly, I know these are a lot of rules, but please enjoy yourselves and have fun! After all, that's what AYBS? is about, first and foremost. ^_^
Thanks!
