(Furuya Tohru)
Although we all love the character of Chiba Mamoru, he would never have been brought to "life" without the vocal talent of seiyuu (voice actor :P) Furuya Tohru.
Furuya's voice acting is not phenomenally good (I like his work, but not as much as I like the work of other seiyuu), and his voice is not as distinctive or as expressive or versatile as those of some other voice actors, but his calm, smooth, commanding mid-range voice is perfect for Mamoru and Tuxedo Kamen. Also, the fact that Furuya usually gives Mamoru a smooth, calm voice lends a bigger impact to dramatic scenes where Mamoru actually screams or in funny scenes where he makes weird noises. ^_^ Furuya's singing isn't great, but it's pretty good, and "Dakishimete Itai" and "Toki o Koete" (Mamoru's image songs) are two of my more favorite anime songs.
Furuya Tohru was born on 31 July 1953 in Kanagawa, which means he's a Leo, just like Mamoru; he even shares Mamoru's blood type of A. ^_^; He works for Aoni Productions, a company that employs two of my all-time favorite seiyuu: Okiayu Ryoutarou and Minaguchi Yuko. As of now, Furuya has released no solo CDs; he lives with his wife Satomi and their daughter Manami, born in 1992, and his hobbies include windsurfing, going on cruises, and writing computer programs. o_o;;;
Boku ga seiyuu no Furuya Tohru desu! I am voice actor Furuya Tohru! |
Furuya is probably most noted for his role as Chiba Mamoru/Tuxedo Kamen in Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon, but he has also appeared in Dragonball, One Pound Gospel (he is hilarious in this one), Kimagure Orange Road, Marmalade Boy, Z Gundam, Urusei Yatsura, and Saint Seiya. Furuya has been voice acting since he was twelve years old, and he made his debut in Pirate Prince as the voice of a child.
