Issue 5 - "How to Give Flowers"
1. Flower choice: I know I'm sort of biased, but get ROSES. :P Carnations and "assorted flowers" bouquets are both really tacky. Of course, there are exceptions, like if you know your lover likes long white lilies or dark, dark purple irises, but other than that, stick to roses.
2. Choosing the right roses: Make sure that you get long-stemmed roses, not medium, short, or extra short. :P Long-stemmed roses are more expensive for a reason: you get what you pay for. Plus, make sure that the rose blooms are not opened up too much; they should be just opened or just about to open. If the roses aren't of the best quality, don't even bother. Just buy your lover a box of high-quality chocolates instead. :P
3. Rose colors: I recommend that you choose between three rose colors: very dark red, soft powder pink, or pure white. Unless your lover thinks that yellow is a sexy color, do NOT get yellow roses. And stick with one color, don't get your lover six pink roses and six red. :P Also, don't EVER get those tacky roses that are varicolored, you know, like yellow at the base of the petals and red at the petal edges or something. That kind of thing is bad. ^.^;;; The one exception to varicolored roses are white roses with the SLIGHTEST hint of pink at the edges of the petals, which are really nice. But that's probably harder to find than very dark red, soft powder pink, or pure white. :P
4. Presentation: Baby's breath (the little white flowers you find in bouquets all the time) is really tacky. Just get the roses by themselves, and they'll look simple and elegant. If your florist insists on putting baby's breath into your bouquet of roses, just take them out by yourself later. :P Also, that green cellophane that some florists use to wrap roses is really tacky, so try to get something else to wrap the flowers with, like a nice square of wrapping paper, or a square of satin, silk, or even velvet. You can even give the roses without any wrapping as long as the bundle looks nice without one. Also, when choosing how many roses you're going to give, stick to a dozen - roses look their nicest when surrounded by eleven friends. :P Of course, one exquisitely bare long-stemmed rose lying on your lover's pillow can be just as romantic as twelve in a bunch, so use your common sense.
