why I like her:
I've only seen four episodes of Escaflowne and I wasn't all that impressed by Sakamoto Maaya's acting voice (but like I said, it was only four episodes, so I didn't get to hear much of her acting). However, her singing voice is another matter - gawd, it's pretty! *_* I have four of her CDs and one of her singles, and I still want more. ^^; I'm obviously not the only one who thinks she sings well - Maaya was chosen to sing the opening songs for Escaflowne ("Yakusoku wa Iranai"), for Lodoss ("Kiseki no Umi"), and for Card Captor Sakura ("Platina"), and all three of those songs are absolutely gorgeous. The fact that all of the songs sung by Maaya are composed by Kanno Youko (an absolutely brilliant composer and pianist who wrote beautiful music for anime series like Escaflowne and Please Save My Earth - and who produced Maaya's albums!) doesn't hurt, either - the combination of Maaya's soft/sweet voice and Kanno's expertise is amazing. (Of course, the fact that Maaya's five months younger than me and has already released a bunch of kickass CDs sort of depresses me... *rofl* ^^;;;) Incidentally, Maaya wrote the lyrics for quite a few of the songs that she's sung.
