Ganymede's Darkroom - 2006 Photos (March to June)

13 March:

snow in Southern California
(So I drove down from the S.F. Bay Area to Northridge - part of greater L.A. - because my mother lives there. We'd been having some unseasonably cold weather here in California, including snow sightings in the Bay Area of all places, so I was not-quite-surprised-but-still-excited to see snow at low elevations as I was driving through Southern California into L.A. I snapped these pictures with my cellphone while driving one-handed - hence the poor quality!)

- These are some pretty low hills; for them to have snow is pretty amazing in this region.
- Snow off in the distance, on a relatively low mountain range.
- There were places within the hills that take you into L.A. where the snow almost reached the freeway!

20 March:

Jaehak *_*
(This camh0r isn't me, but my younger cousin Jaehak, who came from Korea in January to stay with my mom in Northridge and go to school in America for at least a year or two. He's a cutie pie. ^_^ This is my only picture of Jaehak, though; the photos below just feature me being a lame little camh0r, XD and were taken in Jake's Northridge room a day after his photo.)

- This photo is fantastic because it accentuates my arm's Lack of Muscle. :O
- Looks like I'm copying Jake's pose! *L* XD
- Angelina Jolie called, and she wants her lips back. -_-
- See the photos on the wall? They're of my little brother (this used to be his room).
- My closed-mouth smile.
- More tight-lipped action! XD

15 May:

California sunset, from Highway 5California sunset, from Highway 5
(After spending Mother's Day weekend in Northridge - part of greater L.A. - with the family, I drove back to the S.F. Bay Area and snapped these pictures on the way. These were taken with my cellphone while driving one-handed - hence the poor quality!)

22 May:

gorgeous sea rocks exposed during low tide *_*
(On this day I took my good friend Nna hiking along the coast at Año Nuevo State Reserve, where we got in touch with uneven rocks, pathetic waterfalls, buttsliding, muh-nemones, and our feminine sides. XD This reserve sits mid-way between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz on the California coast, and my parents and I used to visit it all the time to hike, fish, and have a picnic by the waves. In fact, we relaxed in the H.M.B. area at least twice a month when I was growing up - it was barely twenty minutes from our house on a good traffic day! - and most of the time we drove the extra twenty-five minutes down to Año Nuevo's northern border because it was more remote and less touristy. Nna hid her disgust as I guzzled oysters in H.M.B. before the hike, I watched her take my bad advice and get her clothes wet, and after we overdosed on nature and frightened enough crabbies we drove into San Mateo and Foster City to shop and have dinner. Bliss!)

- Nna and I arrived at Año Nuevo around low tide; hence the calm look to the water.
- Low tide means exposed rocks, so I climbed down to capture them. Love the glassy look to the water. *_*
- Another view of the exposed rocks, shot from the same spot to complete the view.
- A crescent-shaped mound in the sea at low tide. Again, the waves are fairly calm.

(Yes, tide does matter. Check out the same general area at high tide, from my trip to Año Nuevo in February.)

- The juxtaposition of dry versus wet and barren versus living. What a difference some water makes!
- This picture was taken from the spot where my parents and I used to fish and picnic during my childhood.
- A blurry but fun shot of the ocean flinging spittle at me. :D
- I love the colors on the water here - it looks like uncut/unpolished aquamarine. 8D
- This photo's absolutely gorgeous, with Año Nuevo Island on the horizon. *_* (And we're still at the old family spot! Is it any wonder I went marine bio crazy?)
- There were far more strawberries in bloom compared to the last time I came here, about five/six weeks ago.
- More wild coastal strawberries, growing in packed sand. I never can get over how they manage to survive. XD
- As for these wildflowers, NONE of them were present the last time I came here! :O
- A much better shot of the flowers. So beautiful, with the ocean and Año Nuevo Island in the background.
- This photo perfectly illustrates why I prefer the Northern California coastline to Southern California's. *_*
- And sometimes, on fine days like these, I just HAVE to give in to TEH SLANT! XD
- While walking down a hill to Whitehouse Creek, we looked up the incline to see pretty clouds.
- Another shot of the clouds, floating past like smoke above the green. *_*
- A south-facing look at Whitehouse Creek draining into the ocean. The creek made Nna all soggy - sorry Nna! Y_Y
- Birds flying south along the coastline, with Nna hair in the corner. XD
- A closer look at the way Whitehouse Creek is eroding the beach where it meets the sea.
- Nuh-NNA. XD!!!
- A final look at the ocean and some pretty seastacks before concluding our hike.

29 May:

San Francisco, viewed from just north of the Golden Gateseen while facing south: San Francisco and the Golden Gate
(As much as I love travel, I hate doing it right in the thick of a high-traffic holiday weekend like Memorial Day Weekend - especially if I'm traveling to tourist locations. However, my mom and stepdad were up in the Bay Area on Sunday and Memorial Day Monday, so it was a chance for me and my brother to spend time with them - and they wanted to check out some touristy areas! XD;;; On Monday one of the things we did was go to the Marin/north side of the Golden Gate Bridge to relax, look out on the water, and snap a few pictures before getting an early dinner on Sausalito's waterfront. I snapped these pictures at the viewing point north of the bridge with my cellphone - hence the poor quality!)

- A view of Alcatraz Island out in the middle of the Bay - I think that's Treasure Island to its right. ^^

13 June:

... I hope you don't go blind! XD
(It's just me being a camwhore again! XD Don't mind me, move along, make sure I haven't permanently blinded you, stay on the runner, etc. XD)
