Aino Minako - Astrology and Mythology
![]() |
| Minako and Her Sunsign Minako is a Libra (Libra - the Balance - seventh sign of the zodiac) and as a Libra she is pretty, well-liked, self-indulgent, and a bit lazy (kinda the way Usagi is :p). She has a lighthearted, easygoing nature that gives her a certain sociable charm yet makes her seem less intelligent than she really can be, and that is very much a Libra quality. Her dream to be an idol and her obsession with them is also quite Libra, as Libras are into stars and glamour and appearances/society and such. Libras also tend to exhibit leadership qualities, as shown by Saior Venus in the Sailormoon R movie when she leads the Inner Senshi in their Sailor Planet Attack and then later instructs Sailor Moon and the other Inner Senshi on how to cleanse the Kisenian-infested meteor (in the manga, Sailor Venus is the leader of the Inner Senshi). The ruling planet of Libra is Venus. Minako's Mythology To the Greeks, Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty, was a kind but flaky goddess, who ruled over both spiritual and physical love. She was revered as the goddess of love (and therefore fertility) and as a guardian of lovers, but she was also portrayed as being a flighty, lusty, and sometimes shallow goddess who cheated on her husband Hephaestus with the war god Ares. The Romans made Venus a bit more serious and dignified than Aphrodite, but she was still basically a copy of the Greek original. Like Aphrodite, Minako is a person who is flighty, pretty, and sometimes shallow, but who is also good-hearted and soft-hearted. Additionally, Aphrodite is usually portrayed as a lovely goddess with long blond hair and blue eyes, which is exactly the way Minako looks. As mentioned above, Ares is lover to Aphrodite... so perhaps those hentai fics pairing up Rei/Mars with Minako/Venus are on the right track... or something. XD *L* Mythology Behind the Constellation Libra Libra represents the Balance, the "Scales of Justice," and the constellation Libra is connected to Themis, the Greek Titan goddess of justice (some people say the constellation is a representation of Themis herself while others say that the constellation is the balance that Themis holds in her hand). Along with the Fates (Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos) and the Furies (Alecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone), Themis is an "inescapable" goddess to whom even the other gods must submit. Nemesis and Dike are also Greek justice goddesses, but Nemesis deals more with the retribution aspect of justice, while Dike is Human Justice (Themis is Divine Justice). Themis, Nemesis, and Dike were "concept goddesses," goddesses personifying abstract concepts, and they never acquired real *personalities* in Greek mythology. With the Titan Iapetus as both her brother and husband, Themis bore two well-known Titan children: Atlas, who carries the heavens on his shoulders, and Prometheus, who suffers eternal punishment for the help he gave to mankind. She also gave birth to Epimetheus, husband of Pandora (of the Pandora's box myth) and grandfather to Aphrodite according to some myths (most myths say that Aphrodite was born from the sea-foam that was created when Cronus castrated his father Ouranos and threw the bleeding genitals into the ocean o_o!). Themis had one daughter named Astraea, who was a justice goddess like her mother but later became the goddess of innocence and purity. |
